Machines, Abstraction and Women
David Lynch in Paris - Galeries Lafayette's shopping windows, Boulevard Hausmann, until October the 3rd.

Sketch by David Lynch for the Paris exhibition.

Hello Lovelies!
I am a big admirer of David Lynch's cinema, especially the intriguing "Mulholland Drive", and also love his furniture design. So when I heard he was having an exhibit in Paris during my short stay there, I was pretty excited!
But then I went to see it and was hugely disappointed. So I tried something new: why not add a layer to something I found lacked depth? I decided to take shots of the exhibit, while purposely adding reflections of the windows, the facing buildings and silhouettes of passers by. I think the result is doing good to Lynch's work. So here goes (you can click on all my photos to view them larger):
This doll in a yellow dress was singing!
The tears were actually falling!
An abstract machine, reminding me of Marcel Duchamp. My fave!

Tea with Betsy Walton
Besty Walton
Amy Ruppel says: "Another now local artist I love is Betsy Walton. What’s not to love about a sweet gal from Kansas? She is also a creator of her own imaginative environments, but out of doors and in harmony with nature. Wisps of smoke and leaves, feathers and ghosts of homes, dresses and folks. You can stare at one of her works for a long time, look away, then look back and see something new. Her work is also featured on a Third Drawer Down tea towel, entitled "Dandelion Tea" that I must get my hands on. See it all on Betsy’s beautiful web site, morningcraft.com, and her Etsy shop, full of her gorgeous prints."

Embers, June 2009, 11×14, acrylic gouache on panel

info found via the design*sponge guest blog.

I found out about Betsy Walton's artwork through the famous sfgirlbybay blog, since Victoria had a wonderful "Swimming" print by Betsy hung above her home office desk (see above photo by super-talented Angie Cao). Now I have three love reunited in this teatowel : Betsy's work, tea, and a dandelion. What's not to love???!

Chuck Voelter's Art

Photos by Keller + Keller, via Boston Home
While flicking through the Apartment Therapy blog, i stumbled upon this beautiful photo (above). What grabbed my attention was the seat, the wall color, and most of all the big painting over the mantle piece. I followed the links provided by AT Boston, and found out this amazing contemporary painting was by artist Chuck Voelter, now a new fave contact of mine on Flickr.
See more of his paintings and drawings here. Also check out his website.
