Sneak Peek : at Jessica's
I love Jessica's work as a typographer and graphic designer. Here are some photos (by Annie Werbler ) from her vermilion (scarlet) home (via Apartment Therapy).
The poster behind her sofa is by calligrapher Seb Lester and can be seen real big on my flickr photostream, right here.
Enjoy the whole house tour!

Opposites Attract!
Hello lovelies,
Today i feel like ranting a bit (sorry!) about reconciling the feminine and the masculine sides in me, design-wise, especially in the bedroom!
As you may already know, I love what can be called "masculine flair", dark woods, deep brown and charcoal grey...
picture found here
But then there's of course a feminine side in me, who loves white floors, Scandinavian design, and the style of sfgirlbybay! So how do I reconcile the two in the bedroom?
While browsing indierocket's *big* inspiration tray on flickr, I think I may have found an answer! Here are a few images to illustrate my design journey. Let's start!
image found here
First, I think I'm looking for some balance between feminine and masculine, just like in the picture above. The woods are not too dark, there's equal amounts of light colors and charcoal grey accents... Perfect!
Casey's bedroom, perfect feng-shui wise, and featured here on design*sponge.
See more soft greys mixed with white at Paul Massey's house.
enjoy!

Wunderkammer Art
Hello Lovelies!
I wanted to tell you about my own vision of Wunderkammer Art, what Leah at ApartmentTherapy calles "decorating with biology charts" (see below for link), but my computer is down and I'm writing to you guys from a cyber-café... So here goes a couple of interesting links on the subject... My own vision will have to wait.
ApartmentTherapy says:
"Inspired by Leah's recent post about decorating with biology charts, we wanted to share with you our own favorite source for old botanical and natural history prints, Panteek. Their selection is vast, with everything from eighteenth-century parrot prints to woodblock Japanese tree scenes..."
I love Panteek, I love Deyrolle! I love bugs and wunderkammer art!
Here a re a few examples : to be coming soon...

Masculine Flair

I'm a woman, but I love what are traditionally considered "masculine" colors, such as charcoal grey, deep reds, black, rich chocolate, navy blue, etc... I also love the Apartment Therapy blog, because it represents the tastes of both sexes...
Here are a few "dark" rooms for inspiration, from my image archives. If they are not properly credited, please contact me and i'll correct that! Thanks!
You can click on all images to view them real large.

This is a view of furniture designer Christophe Delcourt's bedroom (via Marie Claire Maison). The pleated linen curtains are by artist Pietro Seminelli.
More to come!

I want/need to "winterize" my home

photo from REALSIMPLE.com
Holly from the decor8 blog has a wonderful post about "Fall: How to Cozy Up Your Home", a very thorough review of how to "winterize" your interior, and go from summery feel to that cozy, warm feel for winter.
This is how my living-room looks like in summer :
I'll add pics of my own to tell you what I do to prepare for Fall and Winter time!
When nature starts to look like this:

image source unknown. please contact me if you are the author!
Or even this amazingly beautiful "Haiku" by Lumase:

Then, I'm looking for a color palette like this:

The Fall textile range from etsy seller Cicada Studio. Also the makers of Cloud9 Fabrics.

photo by David Prince, published by REALSIMPLE.com
And also lots of candle light (see above), a good, warm blanket in the following color palette (maybe from Behr.com? not sure), to match my deep chocolate brown vintage couch.

Luxury silk pillows from Agnes & Hoss
I'm also adding silk pillows (see above), changing the rugs, adding silk flowers from SIA... As a centerpiece, I put tangerines in a big glass bowl, for the taste of fresh fruits, and also for the splash of color, that goes so well with the brown background.
And now... winterized !

Enjoy your Fall & Winter at home!

A Fresh Danish Home
Hello lovelies,

"Bath series" by Karen Skotte-Lund @ KopCup.
I'm usually attracted to small home decor, since i live in a small apartment myself.... But this Danish home I'm about to scan (you can click on each image to view it real large) and show to you today is really special. It made it to the cover of French decor magazine "le journal de la maison", Sept. 2009 issue, and rightfully so!
Here's the cover story, showing the dining-room - I love its cheerful colors:
The couple living there, Karen & Claus: she's a ceramist (her company's name is KopCup), he built the house with his own hands! Talk about craft and DIY!!!
The entryway looks like this - gotta love that kangoroo:
The dining-room with its cheerful colors and beautiful natural light:
Another view of the dining-room / open kitchen area:
Love all the little details here, especially the funky felt cushions:
Here is a closer view of the kitchen :
A nice nook for gathering, chatting, reading:
The bathroom, filled with Karen's ceramics, the main bedroom, and the general view of the house lost in the woods of Danemark:
Enjoy!

It's Time to Decorate with Bugs!
Hello Lovelies, it's me again!

I've been thinking lately, especially after featuring here yesterday this amazing apartment found on ApartmentTherapy...
Fact 1: I love home decor... obviously!
Fact 2: I love bugs, yes, insects. I draw them. Butterflies, dragonflies, scarabs, you name it! They're beautiful!
So why not decorate with bugs?! I think this new category will be dedicated to:
1: My bug art. So I'll share my love with you.
2. Examples of beautiful homes decorated with insects (be it fabric pattern, real insects dried and framed, pâintings and drawings, etc...). I'll do my best to give due credit to each home owner of course!
3: Photos of bugs decorating my own home.
See you, butterflies!

A House Tour Not to Be Missed!

I really love these vignettes from Tara's and Ari's home, seen at ATNY. I love the bugs collection. It adds a nice touch to a modernist interior.

Enjoy!

Tea with Margarita from the Chocolate Creative blog
Hello lovelies!

This is the lovely house of Margarita from the Chocolate Creative blog

I love the use she makes of teapots and teacups as part of the decor.
Her inspiration :
"Well I
look for inspiration in traditional craft, embroidery, stitching, old
linens, vintage textiles, art, museums, (V&A in London), design,
interiors, old objects that has got a story to tell, places I visit. My
most recent travel was to Brazil, I fell for the country, the people,
the music, the landscape, etc…"
